Whitetology

The Handy Dandy Book of Terms to Describe What It's Like Being a Black Person Navigating White Spaces, White Systems and White Institutions in White Australia

Whitetology is a creative project in which words from navigating whiteness in so-called Australia have been conceptualised.

As a black man, a settler on unceded land, these words are my way of understanding and subverting the white gaze by looking at things through a Black lens. Importantly, they've helped me uncover the way(s) whiteness manifests that we are taught to normalise.

This is the process of making language for the conventional nature of systemic and institutional Whiteness by attaching a name to those encounters and to the dynamics of race and power.
