Karunya: The Gentle Rain from Song Wat
A story of Lalana, who is a mother, a man-narrated through the sense of motherhood and otherness
“My dear child,
If your father has left an indentation on my ring finger
And you stretch marks on my stomach,
He has likewise left a permanent engraving.”
This is the story of Lalana, a transgender man who gave birth to a daughter. As he comes to terms with his identity, his marriage begins to fracture, leaving him suspended between his past and his true self.
During this period of profound change, Lal meets a man whose house on Song Wat Road becomes a refuge. From their chance first meeting, Lal returns again and again, drawn not only by desire and intimacy, but by the rare experience of being accepted for who he truly is.
Emotional and unflinching, Karunya is a powerful story of parenthood, transformation, love, and the courage to claim one’s truth.

Publishing has a diversity problem. There are less 'diverse' books being published which limits the discoverability and reach of those authors.
Representation is important. Read more about why we exist here.
An anti-racist social enterprise bookstore specialising in BIPOC books.
Only about 11% of books published are by BIPOC authors — so unless you specifically seek out books by BIPOC authors, you aren't likely to find very many of them organically. At Amplify, BIPOC authors are highlighted and celebrated. Here, they don't have to fight to be seen, and you don't have to fight to find them.
